Set Yourself Up For Success

Did you know that our actions are based upon what we see, how our spaces are arranged, and convenience? Our environments can impact our stress level, productivity and goal achievement. How do your environments set you up for success? Are they conducive to developing and maintaining healthy habits? Are they visually appealing and organized so things are easy to find, or do they more closely resemble a 3 year old’s toy box or a teenager’s bedroom?

Here are some things to consider when setting yourself up for success:

  1. Whether you work at home or in an office, your work environment should be conducive to productivity. Keep items that you use often, tidy and within reach. You don’t want to dig through drawers or filing cabinets to find what you need.

  2. Organize papers and other documents in file folders.

  3. Keep something on your desk that makes you smile and brings you joy. It could be your favorite inspirational quote, a picture of your family or a close friend, or a small memento from your favorite trip.

  4. If most of your work is done on a computer, having your documents organized in folders is critical. If you’re inundated with email, separate your messages into different folders (i.e. work, personal, etc.). Sifting through hundreds of messages to find what you’re looking for, is not only frustrating but unproductive.

  5. Having an organized closet will save time when getting ready in the morning.Donate or consign clothing that is too big, outdated, or worn.

  6. An organized refrigerator is essential for healthy eating success. Keep healthy snacks at eye level, in grab and go containers (ex: cut up fruits and veggies). Go through condiments, checking expiration dates. Pre-cook and portion meal essentials (ex: grains, oatmeal, chicken), storing in clear containers for easy meal prep.
